Design choices behind this demo
- Jobs first, then skills. The skills checklist is built from the descriptions of the jobs the person picked, so it can only exist after they choose.
- The fit check advises; it never blocks. "You meet 3 of 4" helps someone focus. Many entry-level "requirements" are really preferences, so the person can always apply anyway.
- "One-shot" depends on the employer. The demo shows three routes: a direct connection (City pilot), an application packet emailed to a named contact, and a pre-filled hand-off to the employer's own site.
- Status is the hard part. Most employers will not report back on their own. The demo mixes employer decisions, a named contact, and the applicant reporting their own progress.
- Records stay out. The portal does not collect conviction history, Social Security numbers or medical details. Postings that state a background check are flagged so a navigator can talk it through first.
- Built for phones and shared devices. Text-message updates, big tap targets, and a navigator who can see status with the applicant's consent.
